Julie E. Lewerenz, M.D.

Dr. Lewerenz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, Inc. Additionally, she is certified in Clinical Psychopharmacology by The American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Inc. Dr. Lewerenz attended Vassar College and graduated cum laude in Psychology. She earned her M.D. at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey in 1995. In becoming Board Certified, Dr. Lewerenz’s training included four years of medical school, three years of a general/adult psychiatry residency and two additional years of a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship. Dr. Lewerenz is a member of the American Medical Society (AMA), American Psychiatric Society (APA), the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and The American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. She closed her private psychiatric practice in the Princeton, NJ area after ten years to provide child and adolescent services to military dependents at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Dr. Lewerenz joins North Spring with a dedication to improve the lives of children and their families by providing comprehensive care and encouraging resiliency.

Jacquelynn Hollman, Psy.D., LCP, CSOTP, KPMT

Dr. Hollman received her Bachelors in Arts in Psychology from The Ohio State University and completed her graduate training in clinical psychology at Biola University. Her training and practice of psychology has focused on children and adolescents, with a particular interest in the manifestation of conduct and attachment disorders during this age. Dr. Hollman is involved in the development and implementation of the North Spring program addressing sexual behaviors in pre-adolescent males. She also conducts Psychological Evaluations and Risk Assessments with children.


Laurie Stern

Dr. Slavit received her Bachelors of Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, and completed her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at University of Hartford, with a concentration in children and adolescents. Throughout her education and training, she has worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, partial hospitalization, residential treatment and inpatient. She has experience as an individual, group and family therapist in addition to conducting neuropsychological, forensic and psychological evaluations. She has a particular interest in the assessment and treatment of adolescents with conduct disorder.

Jonathan Johnson

Jonathan Johnson received his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology at West Virginia University and completed his Masters degree in Counseling from West Virginia University, with a concentration in children and adolescents.

Throughout his education and twelve years of clinical experience, he has worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health and residential and inpatient treatment. He has experience as a substance abuse therapist, couples therapist and has spent most of his career working with children and their families. Jonathan specializes in the treatment of sexually reactive youth.

Dan is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. He received a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Delaware. After a career in a related field Dan earned a master's degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Dan has been working with people for a long time and more recently in a residential setting for adolescents. Additionally Dan works in outpatient with adults, children and families.

Elaine Johnson and Molly and Wilson

Elaine is a paws4people foundation Certified Assistance Dog Trainer and Certified Service, Rehabilitative and Educational Assistance Dog Handler. She received her Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Training and Development in the UK which was subsequently converted to a US degree.

Molly is Certified Psychiatric Service Dog, and is also K9 Good Citizen and Therapy Dog International qualified. Wilson is in training to be a paws4people Psychiatric Service Dog. Elaine uses both of her dogs to provide education, therapy and activities for our residents in individual and group sessions as required for treatment.


Meredith Graham

Meredith received her master's degree in counseling psychology from Texas A&M University in 2003 and her doctorate in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 2010. She has been working with children in the foster care system for seven years. Her interests include child and adolescent trauma, grief and loss, sexual and physical abuse and children and adolescents with sexually aggressive and reactive behaviors.

Rachel Helft

Throughout her education and training, Rachel has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including school, community mental health and residential treatment. Rachel has over 10 years of experience in the human services field in a variety of roles such as case manager, individual, group and family therapist. Specific areas of interest include the treatment of aggressive behavior in youth, the treatment of children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, as well as the broader topics of positive youth development. Rachel is a graduate of George Mason University, with a master’s in social work.


Katharine Ryan

Katharine graduated from Marymount University with a Bachelors of Science degree in psychology with an emphasis in health sciences. She completed her undergraduate internship working with families and children affected by domestic violence. Katharine went on to receive her Masters degree in clinical psychology from Argosy University and completed her graduate internship with the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board practicing play therapy in the infancy and early childhood program. There she worked with children who had experienced trauma, sexual abuse and the diagnoses of selective mutism.

Throughout her career, Katharine has developed a familiarity with adolescents, adults and children in the hospital, residential and outpatient settings. In addition, Katharine has worked in a comprehensive outpatient opiate treatment center practicing individual, group and family therapy for adults with opiate addictions and co-occurring disorders. Katharine has a particular interest in children who have experienced trauma and the effects of PTSD on families.


Marc Linovitz

Marc received his Bachelors of Arts with an emphasis in Social Work from Michigan State University and his Masters in Social Work from Wayne State University. Marc completed his undergraduate internship working with children and their families in an outpatient setting. Marc completed his graduate internship at Catholic Social Services providing individual therapy to children and adults. While living in Michigan, Marc worked as a therapist in foster care programs providing therapy to children and adolescents who were victims of abuse and neglect. Since moving to Virginia he has worked in special education day schools providing individual, group and family therapy to children and adolescents with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities and developmental disabilities. Some of these students also had history of trauma and abuse.

Throughout his career, Marc has developed a familiarity providing therapy to children, adolescents and families in outpatient settings and special education schools. Marc has experience working with children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Depression and co-occurring disorders.

Rachael Murphy Ryan

Rachael received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park and her Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in clinical mental health from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Rachael completed her graduate internship working with adults in intensive outpatient and inpatient psychiatric settings as a group, family and individual therapist. Rachael has experience with clients experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, past trauma and abuse and substance abuse. Her interests include mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral techniques with adolescents with impulsive and reactive behaviors.

Hilary Peterson

Hilary Peterson received her Bachelors of Science in english education at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She completed her Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and Community Counseling at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Throughout her career, Hilary has worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, out-patient counseling, therapeutic day treatment, intensive in-home counseling, counseling youth at an emergency shelter and inpatient. Specific areas of interest include the treatment of mood and psychotic disorders, the treatment of foster children and the treatment of sexually reactive youth.

Amanda Goc

Amanda is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology and her Masters of Art in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University. She has over eight years of experience in a community mental health setting, working with children and adolescents in the school system. In addition, she has experience in an outpatient setting working primarily with young adults, children, adolescents and families. Amanda has experience with clients struggling with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, grief, anxiety, past trauma and abuse, family issues and depression.

Cindy Austin

Cindy is a NCTRC certified therapeutic recreation specialist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with minors in Sociology and History from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Cindy also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, Cindy earned a Master of Science degree in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Cindy has more than 20 years of experience working with children and youth. She has worked in a variety of settings including community recreation, juvenile probation, education, corrections, home-based therapy and residential settings. Cindy enjoys the outdoors and brings her love of experiential therapy, teambuilding and challenge course facilitation to North Spring Behavioral Healthcare.
